The health, safety and wellbeing of our own employees and workers across the value chain is our single most important priority and the very prerequisite for sustainable business success. Our commitment to safety runs through our entire organisation, guided by Toyota Industries Corporation's Zero Accidents Vision and the Bradley Safety Model, emphasising leadership, equipment, processes, and people.
For us, this means active listening, collaborating, setting clear guidelines, promoting work-life balance, offering flexibility, and providing tools and resources for wellbeing of everyone, also for the people who work for our customers, suppliers, distributors and other business partners. This shared commitment is why we’re all about people.
We strongly believe an inclusive culture thrives on diverse perspectives and backgrounds, which enrich our workplace and fuel innovation. To be successful, we need everyone’s full commitment and support. Here, everyone contributes to building such a culture.
With the full support of our Executive Management Team and all Managing Directors, we actively invest in DEI initiatives. Our policies are designed to eliminate bias in recruitment, foster fairness and create equal opportunities. A company-wide e-learning course reinforces commitment to inclusion at every level.
Toyota Material Handling Italy became the first to achieve key certifications in D&I and gender equality, setting a benchmark for other entities to follow. Culture Week, held annually, highlights the shared responsibility of progress and celebrates the contributions of all employees. Other common initiatives include skills training and development workshops, employee surveys, awareness activities and collaborative business networking to exchange good practices, e.g. Open@Work membership.
At Toyota Material Handling Europe, customer safety and comfort are at the heart of everything we do. From product development to after sales service, our commitment to quality ensures that every truck is designed, tested and manufactured to the highest TPS standards. With ISO-certified factories and service companies, we deliver reliable products backed by expert technician training and certification programmes.
Our vision of zero accidents means safer operations for our customers and their employees. Ergonomic designs that keep operators comfortable and advanced assistance systems that actively prevent collisions, help create a safer, smoother experience every day.
With over 350,000 connected trucks worldwide, our smart fleet solutions empower customers to monitor operations, ensure only qualified operators have access and minimise risks through real-time data insights. Combined with our industry-leading forklift operator training – certified by Bureau Veritas – customers can rely on our products. Whether through high-comfort seating, AI-powered detection systems or robust data protection practices, we are dedicated to delivering safer, more efficient workplaces.
As a global leader in forklift manufacturing, we are committed to building a circular supply chain, embedding responsible practices into every stage of our sourcing process. With 80% of our suppliers located near our production sites, we strengthen local economies while reducing transportation impact. At the same time, we recognise the complexities of working with suppliers across diverse regions, where legal protections and sustainability standards vary. That’s why we’ve established a dedicated ESG Workgroup within our Procurement Department, ensuring our operations not only comply with emerging legislation but also actively drive our sustainability objectives.
Our Sustainable Procurement initiative is already delivering measurable progress. We encourage suppliers to follow our Code of Conduct and join the EcoVadis platform, enabling transparent assessments and continuous improvement. By combining strong governance with supplier collaboration, we are shaping a value chain that is not only efficient but also committed to fair labour practices and environmental impact reduction.
Taking care of communities means looking beyond business as usual and embracing sustainability as a shared responsibility. We are committed to monitoring and preventing pollution, protecting biodiversity and ecosystems, and managing PFAS in our products to reduce long-term risks. Our focus on deforestation reflects the urgency of safeguarding natural habitats and the communities that depend on them.
At the same time, we are raising our level of governance to ensure equal legal protection, especially since not all our suppliers operate in regions with strong safeguards. While most are based in Europe, some are located in countries where protection remains weaker and communities are more vulnerable. Recent EU climate and social regulations challenge us to go further, and we welcome this opportunity to create a level playing field.
Since 2010, we have proudly partnered with the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU‑OSHA). Together, we share best practices and support campaigns to raise awareness about workplace safety.
Our focus on proactive health and wellbeing initiatives is growing. All our factories are now ISO 45001 certified for occupational health and safety management systems, and we are working toward extending this certification to all Marketing & Sales Companies and warehouses by 2029.
